Half Moon Bay is the crescent bay at the entrance to West End, and it is the first thing you see when the main road ends at the small roundabout. The reef sits just offshore, which keeps the water inside the bay calm and shallow enough to wade, swim, or paddleboard without fighting anything.
The sand is soft and pale, edged with sea grape trees, palm shade, and stretches of ironshore limestone. It is narrower than West Bay, and it is not trying to be West Bay. You walk in straight off the village road. Most of the businesses run to your left as you face the water, with a handful more just east of the roundabout.
Snorkeling starts close. Coral heads and sea fans pick up a short swim out, especially along the rocky points and near the roped swimming areas. The bay also works as West End’s cove, so dive boats and water taxis come and go through the day.
You can spend a whole day here without moving your car. Sundowners Beach Bar, Pura Vida, Gingers Caribbean Grill, and the Argentinian Grill West End sit on the sand, The Beach House is right on the bay, and Sun Divers, Native Sons, and Coconut Tree Divers are all a short walk away. See every restaurant and bar on Half Moon Bay. The bay faces west, so the sunset happens straight out in front of you.
