Watering Place is the public beach just west of the Port of Roatan in Coxen Hole, and it is where local families go to cool off. You can walk there from that port. Set your expectations first: the sand is hard packed, not the powder at West Bay. This is a community beach, not a postcard.
The Municipality of Roatan renovated it recently and maintains it as free public recreation space. The work added a sea wall to slow erosion, beach volleyball courts, a domino area, public restrooms, kiosks, and better walkways.
One note if you are arriving by ship. Watering Place is walkable from the Port of Roatan in Coxen Hole, but not from Isla Tropicale at Dixon Cove. From there you have to clear the port and follow the long curve of road around the cove, which is farther than it looks on a map.
