Semana Morazanica (Morazan Week) combines three October holidays: the birth of Francisco Morazan on October 3, 1792, Dia de la Raza on October 12 and Armed Forces Day on October 21. Morazan, born in Tegucigalpa, was president of the Federal Republic of Central America from 1830 to 1839.
Under Decree 78-2015 the three days are taken together from the first Wednesday to Friday of October to encourage travel within Honduras. In 2026 public offices closed Wednesday to Friday, the private sector break ran from Wednesday noon to Saturday noon, and bank branches followed the private schedule while ATMs and online banking kept working. Hotel occupancy on Roatan was reported above 90% that week, so book early.
