Holy Thursday opens the Holy Week (Semana Santa) holiday in Honduras, followed by Good Friday and Holy Saturday. The date moves with Easter each year, and all three days are paid national holidays under Article 339 of the Labor Code.
In 2026 the banking association AHIBA kept branches open only until midday on Wednesday and closed them from Thursday through Sunday, with ATMs, online banking and ACH transfers still running. In past years the government gave public employees the whole week off. Holy Week is a busy travel week for Hondurans: in 2018 West Bay hotels reported full occupancy and the La Ceiba ferry doubled its trips, so book rooms and ferry seats early.
