Sundowners Beach Bar sits right on Half Moon Bay in West End, and there is a reason it stays popular with expats, divers, and tourists year after year. Great location, strong drinks, solid food, and one of the better sunset views in West End. It is the kind of place that earns its name.
I dropped in on a Sunday afternoon for my usual Flor de Caña and Coke Zero with lime, a burger, and a sunset.

The Setup
Sundowners is open-air and casual, right at the water’s edge on Half Moon Bay. The bar takes center stage, the seating spreads out toward the water, and the whole place faces west. If you time it right, the sunset behind the palms is genuinely hard to beat.
The vibe is relaxed and social. It draws a mix of locals, long-term expats, and visitors who have been coming back long enough to know the bartenders by name. Free Wi-Fi is available. No credit cards — cash, Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, and bank transfer are all options.

What to Order
The menu covers burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and light bites. I went with the bacon double cheeseburger and fries. In hindsight, I should have ordered the single. Their patties are 6 oz each, so the double is a serious burger. Fresh bun, lightly toasted, toppings served on the side, and the fries came out hot, fresh, and properly seasoned.

Pro Tip: Unless you are really hungry, the single burger is probably plenty.
The menu also has a grilled and toasted sandwich section worth checking if burgers are not your thing. Light bites and wraps round out the options for something lighter.

The Honest Part
My burger took longer than it should have. I was getting close to the 30-minute mark, so I asked about it. Turns out the kitchen had just gotten slammed by a big wedding party upstairs, which I had not even noticed.
A few minutes later the burger landed and it was a behemoth. Looked great, tasted even better, and definitely delivered on portion size.
Then Mike, the bartender, handled it exactly the way good staff should. He apologized for the delay and offered me another rum and Coke on the house.
That is the difference between an average business and a well-run one. Mistakes happen. What matters is how they handle them. Mike handled it well.
What Is On Regular Rotation
Beyond the food, Sundowners runs a solid lineup of recurring events. Taco Tuesday, Trivia Night, live music, yoga upstairs, and Sunday specials were all being promoted on various nights. If you are spending time in West End, it is worth checking their page for what is on before you head over.

The Sunset
By the time I finished eating, the sun was about to drop and Half Moon Bay put on a show. This is genuinely one of the better sunset viewing spots in West End. Get there 30 minutes before sunset, order a drink, and find a spot facing the water.

The Verdict
4.5 out of 5. Not perfect because of the kitchen delay, but still a very solid stop for drinks, burgers, and sunset. The service recovery from Mike pushed the rating up rather than down.
Good for: sunset drinks, casual meals, solo diners comfortable at the bar, groups wanting a relaxed waterfront spot, anyone wanting a proper burger in West End.
Practical details: No credit cards. Cash, Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, and bank transfer accepted. Free Wi-Fi. Located on Half Moon Bay in West End.
